In 2020 the export of oil products produced in Turkmenistan to Georgia has substantially increased. According to the Union of Oil Importers of Georgia, in March the largest import of motor gasoline and diesel fuel was made from Russia – 19 000 tons and Turkmenistan – 16.8 000 tons. The largest purchases of aviation kerosene also fall on Turkmenistan – 4.9 000 tons, which is twice as much as last year.

In January-March of this year, more than 40 000 tons of automobile fuel was delivered to the Georgian market, that is 2.5 times more than in the same period last year. It is noted that the share of Turkmen gasoline is already 17% of total imports, and aircraft fuel – 74%.

According to the results of the first quarter, Turkmenistan tops the list of the main exporters of aviation kerosene to Georgia. During this period, trading companies purchased in our country about 14 000 tons of this product.

According to data published in April by the National Statistical Office of Georgia, the total value of petroleum products imported from Turkmenistan in January-February 2020 amounted to more than 19 million US dollars. Turkmenistan now ranks third in the list of major suppliers of fuel and energy products – after Russia and Romania.

According to experts, recently effective steps have been taken to intensify Turkmen-Georgian trade and economic ties. In particular, in February this year, the railway companies of Georgia and Azerbaijan signed an agreement on the seasonal transit transportation of petroleum products from Turkmenistan at reduced rates, which will be in force from April to November. In general, this is intended to enhance the competitiveness of the Europe-Caucasus-Asia transit transport route.
