MSU has developed a unified digital geological model of Russia
Moscow State University has presented a unique digital geological model of Russia, created to solve modern problems of the oil and gas industry and the development of hard-to-recover hydrocarbon reserves. This was announced by Antonina Stupakova, Director of the Institute for Advanced Oil and Gas Research at Moscow State University, Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences.
The new model makes it possible to study in detail the geological section of the country, including deep horizons, which is especially important for regions with promising reserves, such as the Ural-Volga region and Tatarstan. According to Stupakova, the model provides information about the structure and distribution of hydrocarbons, which will help to effectively use resources and solve problems of waterlogging of deposits.
Stupakova stressed that for the successful development of the oil and gas industry, it is necessary to combine the efforts of geologists, mathematicians and IT specialists. This will allow you to create and use software adapted to Russian realities and requirements.
The project also created the All-Russian Mygeomap database, which replaces foreign platforms and collects geological data from around the world. Additionally, the directions in carbon-free energy are considered, including the burial of carbon dioxide and the extraction of minerals from associated water.
Stupakova noted that without the training of qualified personnel, the further development of the industry will be difficult. In this regard, the Vernadsky scientific and educational consortium was created, uniting regions, schools and vocational schools, in order to train specialists for the oil and gas and related industries.
MSU has also opened a digital technology center where students and undergraduates can master modern technologies in geology, which contributes to the further development of the industry.
